People Strategy


We have been nationally recognised for the substantial progress made in terms of its approach to people management with many other forces looking at the journey, infrastructure and harmonisation of terms and conditions supporting this innovative operating model, which has resulted in the continued delivery of high quality service to the public for both forces, in an environment of reduced resources.


The challenges continue for the police service as a whole, as public expectations and the complexities of policing increase and policing budgets continue to be pressured, presenting challenges for workforce morale, motivation, capacity and capability.


We recognise the need for further fundamental transformational change across the two forces in order to continue to deliver policing services with a significantly reduced budget and a transformation programme has been set up to determine the fundamental changes that are necessary.


Our policing model and the shape and size of our organisation continues to change whilst demands continue to increase. It is therefore vital that we shape our workforce and environment retaining the right people and maximising the contribution each and everyone makes is more critical than it has ever been to achieve the vision and support the delivery of the police service.
